Family time fast forward days 12,13&14

Wow three days, three very busy days full of karate, church, housework and life in general. I woke up on Thursday with a kink in my back and neck that is just starting to loosen up and have been battling a migraine that left my world in a haze. We have pressed on though with our daily dose of family time filled with Bible reading and prayer.

Killing giants, slaughter for a wife and unclean hands! Haha sounds like some warped thriller. Nope. We have been reading 1 Samuel 17 & 18 and Mark 7. We are really enjoying getting to know the not quite yet King David. He had no fear and complete faith that God would deliver Goliath into his hands. God had already proven His immense strength and capability in David's life. David had killed lions and bears with his bare hands! No man can do that without the strength of God. What other men ran away from David ran head on into. He was not going to let a giant live after hearing him mock God. He set the standard for how God's army should fight, defending the Honor they stand for.

Now Saul could not handle David being praised by the people for the victories. Putting David in charge of Saul's men and sending him out on missions did not really help the situation because he was a winner! I really do not understand Saul's idea that if he gives David his daughter in marriage it would change who David is. Ensnare him, distract him Saul was something else. At that point the hand of God on David's life was enough to keep Saul from trying to kill David out right, ok he did try just had no luck. He was however more then eager to give his daughter to a man he one day wanted dead. Of course David was not easily convinced that he needed a wife. He was not thrilled at the weight of the idea of being a kings son in law. So Saul made it a challenge and David jumped on it. I will not go deep into detail but 200 Philistine men lost their lives and some skin that night!

Then we move on to those Pharisees so hung up on clean hands. God through Moses put out a list of "rules" for His people to live by. Some got caught up on the rules and forgot about the God who made them in the first place. One of my favorite verses Sarah-phrased is  "it is not what you put in your mouth that is unclean but what comes out of it (you, your heart, your mind, your actions) that makes you unclean."
Ok first part is an invite to me to eat all the good food I can find! Seafood yum!! Nothing is off the menu. It may not mean that to you but that is what it says to me.
Second part makes you think. Do you ever pay attention to the thoughts that go through your mind! "Shudder" I do and it is horrifying. How can I be so mean? So nasty? So angry? These thoughts are so full of flesh and sin. I can completely understand how this makes me unclean! I know God forgives but it is still up to me to shovel that crap out of my head. To walk away from the dead, smelly, no good, life destroying thought process. Gives a new meaning to "create in me a clean heart(insert mind) oh God".

Lots of heavy duty thinking in all of these:
We all have Goliath's to fight, faith in God is our ultimate strength to win each time.
Our enemies will seek to destroy us any way possible, God's hand in our lives will see that all work out for good. God's hand? Seek God's favor, praise Him, honor Him, give Him the glory, spend time with Him and His hand will be present in your life.
Going through the motions of living a Christian life does not save you or make you better then anyone else. Give that funk in your brain over to God, let Him direct your path, focus on God's word, spend time in prayer and fasting outside the norm these are the things God wants from you.
