We see D.C.

Last month we got to go on a weekend adventure to D.C.! Brent and I have been meaning to take the kids to D.C. for awhile we just never had the chance to do it. Since our good friends Ben and Meagan Seekell were staying at Walter Reed we finally had a great excuse to just get up and go.

D.C. is a lot like every other big city in the fact that it is over crowded, very busy and booming with industry. However you feel something different as you make your way through D.C. that you do not often feel anywhere else you feel PATRIOTIC! I do not know how else to explain it, the feeling over comes you as you enter the city and transforms you as you explore every part of it. American history is oozing out of every inch of the place and the biggest part of our history is our military.

We enjoyed checking out art exhibits and one of the many fabulous and free museums.

We walked the mall from the History and Science Museum all the way to the Abe Lincoln Memorial. The Washington Monument is tall no other way to describe it and mesmerizing in the fact that people actually built that.

The World War II Memorial was our favorite stop along the way. It was such a beautiful tribute to the men and women who sacrificed so much for our country.

We stopped at each of our representing States Nebraska, Maryland, Colorado, Oklahoma and North Carolina to take pictures as we took in the entire circle of that memorial.

The kids had their picture taken with a reenactment imposter who was actually pretty jolly for being the "bad guy".

Next we stopped at the Korean War Memorial which is both chilling and realistic. You expect the men frozen in time to just start moving along that field holding formation as they go. The ghostly faces and scenes on the wall telling a story without ever saying a word.

We stopped to get Italian Ice and ice cream for the kids after that, took a quick peek at Abe then we made the long walk back to our van. We were surprised that the reflecting pool was not there anymore instead just a muddy fenced off area in between  Abe and the World War II Memorial was all that you got to look at for that long stretch of the walk.

We were exhausted but it was worth it. Both nights that we were there we got to enjoy dinner with Ben and Meagan. It was so nice to just sit and chat, catching up on the long couple of weeks for Meagan and I and the much longer stretch of months for Ben and Brent.

We did learn one thing about eating out in the D.C. area it takes forever to get your bill at the end of the meal! It was a great time though and saying good bye on our last day in D.C. was not easy to do. The drive with five kids was not as difficult as we expected it to be, they all did great and we had an awesome time!
